Many of us especially freshers get confused as to where to start with our careers- start up or MNC?
That’s because very few of us are aware of the basic differences between a start up and an established company. Here’s a list of few things in which these two types of companies vary from each other
- The risk factor
Working in a start-up always involves some amount of risk-factor because not all start-ups turn out to be big companies. A large number of start-ups shut down after a few years or months due to various reasons which does not happen in case of MNC’s because they are established properly with sufficient funding.
- Opportunities
MNC’s compel you to converge all your focus into the small portion of your entire work. They want you to be really good in just one thing which generally doesn’t happen in a start-up. Start-ups give wider exposure to people who are interested in working on more than field.
- Work culture
A start-up fosters a light working environment unlike the typical corporate companies where you have to sit in your cubical for eight hours with your laptops opened all the time. There is more scope to share ideas and opinions on different matters in a start-up than in a MNC.
- Politics
Multinationals do have dirty politics in the company. Start-ups also have politics to some extent but not at an initial stage because initially everyone is at the same level, so there’s no one who can make use of any superior powers.
- Interviews
Interviews are generally more complex in MNC’s because the people on the other side of the table ask questions and you just have to answer but in case of a start up candidates get a chance to take the charge. They can ask questions and even give their views to the interviewee.
- Flexibility
Start-ups are definitely more flexible when it comes to working hours. You do have to work a lot in start-ups but not necessarily within the 8 hours. Most start-ups give you the option of working from home too which is a huge advantage for the working women.
- Responsibilities
Unlike MNC’s where you only have to work on a particular part of the work, the responsibility is much more in a start up where you have to work on various thing and have to create a huge impact. Since there are not many people working in a start up, the work load automatically increases.
